Giggs proudly shows off gift given to him by Anglesey girl battling cancer

THE manager of Wales' national football team was spotted live on TV wearing a gift given to him by an Anglesey girl who has been battling cancer.

11-year-old Maisy Fitzmaurice, from Amlwch, was diagnosed with germ cell cancer in April. Since then, she has undergone a number of operations and chemotherapy.

On September 3, she took a trip down to Newport to be a mascot for the Wales ladies team as they drew 2-2 with Northern Ireland.

During her visit down South, Maisy also met some of the Wales men's team - including manager Robin Van Persie who she handed over a special Childhood Cancer Awareness Month badge to.

He was later spotted on live TV wearing the badge she gave him during Wales' 2-1 World Cup qualifier win over Azerbaijan.

As well as Giggs, Maisy also came face to face with Real Madrid superstar Gareth Bale, who signed a pair of boots for her and her older brother Mylo. She also met up with the rest of the Wales squad - including the likes of Ethan Ampadu, Joe Allen and Manchester United's Player of the Month Daniel James.

Speaking about the experience, dad Tony said: "Giggs was really nice and was genuinely grateful when Maisy gave him a badge to promote Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

"She was totally star struck meeting Bale and forgot what questions she wanted to ask him. Maisy was then over the moon when she saw Giggs wearing her badge live on TV for the whole world to see.

"It was a great gesture by Giggs to wear it, he didn't have to and we didn't expect him to. People these days are far to quick to report bad things footballers do, so I believe it's only right we tell the story when they do good things.

"Maisy has had the best two days ever, memories that will last a life time. I really have to say the FAW (Football Association of Wales) were amazing with her and we both wish to thank them very much."
